Train & prepare specifically with the UK's most experienced High Altitude Guides & Expeditions Leaders

Expeditions require a multitude of skill sets for successful experiences, some of these skills can be picked up along the way, some require more forethought.

Are you already booked on to an expedition and looking for some expedition specific training? From practical show-and-tell advice on clothing and kit or assistance with what kit to buy, through to real life scenarios in the mountains such as using fixed lines, camping on snow or practice climbing using crampons with a big pack on. With our extensive experience on expeditions all around the world, Mountain Expeditions can get you ready and prepared for your expedition objective.

Mountain Expeditions are experts in big mountain expeditions but we also know the Scottish hills extremely well. Our experienced Expedition Leaders know which skills are harder to learn or master in the field and they know where to simulate Greater Ranges environments and training on their home turf. Scotland’s winter mountains have long been the proving ground for mountaineers. As the popular saying goes, if you were anywhere else in the world you’d wait for good weather before venturing out however if you waited in Scotland, you’d never go out! While the weather is never as bad as all that, for the majority of time Scotland in winter is the perfect place to practice and dial your systems. As a practice ground, no better place exists for training for the bigger mountains.

“Mountain Expeditions devised an incredible 8 month plan to get me ready for Everest, combining UK rock climbing, scottish winter & 2 expeditions. Climbing with Rob, Zac & Jon was invaluable to my learning – they have 14 x 8000m summits between them!” Adrian McNally
